A Master Acting Coach
Malcolm Gladwell wrote in The Outliers that it takes approximately 10,000 hours or 10 years for a person to master anything. TBell has put in more than 20,000 hours in telling stories and providing the tools to hundreds of actors to do the same. TBell began her journey in 1987. One of her first film auditions was for Oliver Stone’s Talk Radio. She won the part and received her Screen Actor’s Guild card along with it and moved to Los Angeles in 1990.
From Talk Radio to The Big Screen
This leg of her journey brought her one of the most important people in the tapestry of her life—her acting coach, Roy London. Bell also studied with Ivanna Chubbuck prior to Mr. London. Bell guest starred on numerous television shows and has had parts in over a dozen films. Longing for more meaningful roles, Bell began writing screenplays. One of her scripts, Lullaby, finished in the top 30 in the first Project Greenlight Contest sponsored by Miramax and HBO. Two other scripts have also done well in competition. Bell has been coaching actors for over a decade. A dozen of her actors have made the move to Los Angeles with some of them finding success in an abnormally and surprisingly short amount of time. Among them are Shantel Vansanten, Quinn on “One Tree Hill,” James Preston, Lukas on “The Gates,” and Drew Waters, Coach Wade Aikman on “Friday Night Lights.”
In short, her actors work.
Bell is currently in pre-production on two films she plans to direct from screenplays she has written.
Archetypal Acting
Bell’s method integrates much of what she learned from Roy London, in addition to the skills she’s acquired as a screenwriter. She places an emphasis on being believable, evocative and truthful to the story and the characters involved. These truths are discovered in the realm of the archetypes and the energies/emotions and behaviors they manifest. She helps actors discover what makes them most human and thus, someone to whom the audience can relate.
