Jon Calvert is co-founder and managing director of ClearViewIP Ltd, a leading IP consultancy. Mr Calvert recognised the increasing importance and value of intellectual property in technology businesses and the emergence of intellectual property as an asset class in its own right. Consequently, in 2007, he co-founded ClearViewIP to support clients by providing a broad range of services that were firmly grounded on commercial pragmatism and his extensive experience of running successful businesses. The services that ClearViewIP provide are tailored to clients’ specific needs and include IP strategy development and portfolio management, innovation capture and discovery, IP portfolio analysis and valuation, IP transactions (acquisition, sales and licensing) and M&A support. ClearViewIP combines the experience of its principals and consultants with an in-house team providing research, competitive intelligence and patent analytics capabilities.

Before joining ClearViewIP, Mr Calvert held a number of international R&D and business leadership positions in data storage and networking industries. As vice president of engineering for Xyratex’s Network Storage Systems Division, he was responsible for the development of its expansion storage product line, delivering and supporting products for more than 50 of the world’s leading computer storage providers, building revenues of over $500 million. Mr Calvert has championed new business investment strategies at board level, critically evaluated business performance and represented organisations externally, through private equity roadshow participation and preparation for initial public offering, all with highly successful outcomes.

Mr Calvert has a BEng and a master’s degree from Brunel University. He is an active member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) and regularly participates in IP initiatives, presenting at events run by LES, the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and other leading industry bodies. Mr Calvert also co-founded the International IP Strategists Association, promoting IP strategy and best practice in industry and has been recognised as a leading international IP Strategist by his appointment to the IAM 300 for four consecutive years.
