Superintendent
Superintendent's Office
“ Christopher R. Hoffman was named Superintendent of the Elk Grove Unified School District, in his home town, where he began his career serving students as a teacher and became one of Sacramento region's top leaders in education. ”
Superintendent Chris Hoffman joined Elk Grove Unified School District in 1992 as a social science teacher at Valley High School. In 1994, he transitioned to Laguna Creek High School where he served as chair of the department for social science and in 1998 became vice principal. In the years that followed, Hoffman became principal of Tokay High School in Lodi and then of Mira Loma High School in Sacramento. By 2010, with a proven history of teaching, management, and strong leadership, he soon rose to the top as Superintendent for the El Dorado Union High School District. Hoffman returned to his roots in Elk Grove in the Fall of 2014 where he was named Superintendent of Elk Grove Unified School District and is now the sixth superintendent since the District formed in 1959.
Hoffman brings a unique perspective to Elk Grove being the first Superintendent in District history to have received an elementary and secondary education in EGUSD schools. He attended Herman Leimbach Elementary, Charles Mack Elementary and James Rutter Middle schools and graduated from Valley High School.
His professional career in public education encompassed working with a number of diverse student populations in wide-ranging communities across Northern California, including Elk Grove, Lodi, Sacramento, and the Sierra foothills. Hoffman’s commitment to improving the education of socioeconomically disadvantaged students never wavers. His core belief is that “the only way students can improve their performance is if we, the adults, get better and better at what we do by making a commitment to our learning and development.”
Hoffman’s visionary approach inspires innovation and his transformative leadership style encourages educators to improve their skills and recognize the importance of a student’s culture relevant to their education. His role as a leader is to help meet the needs of schools and find ways to creatively move them forward. Organizations under his leadership are often recognized for fiscal stability and attracting top leaders while supporting employees in career development.
Hoffman holds his Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from CSU Sacramento. He earned his teaching credential from Chapman University followed by an administrative credential from CSU Sacramento and the University of La Verne. Shortly thereafter, he completed his masters of education at the University of La Verne. Hoffman resides in Elk Grove with his wife and two children.
