A leader in the non-surgical hair industry for over 30 years, Dean Riskin is a foremost expert in creating bespoke hair loss solutions. He is knowledgeable on all matters concerning hair restoration, from human and synthetic hair replacement techniques to various replacement systems and solutions. Additionally, Riskin is widely respected for his deep commitment towards helping folically-challenged individuals faced with hair loss due to genetics, alopecia and other medical issues, to restore self confidence and self esteem.
Leveraging his expertise in the hair replacement industry, Dean and colleague Suzanne Chimera created Hair We Share (www.hairweshare.org) in 2013. The organization was conceived from a desire to help less fortunate individuals with alopecia and other medical hair loss issues who cannot afford Dean’s quality hair solutions. Today Hair We Share allows people to donate ponytails and/or make monetary contributions to help defray the cost of manufacturing. This non-profit charity has quickly gained footing in the alopecia and medical-related hair loss communities, making quality of life improvements across the nation for the six million American women who suffer from hair loss.
According to Dean, “We create and design non-surgical cranial prosthetics for clients using many products previously available only to Hollywood and other theatrical professionals. We are proud of our ability to bring quality hair loss solutions to everyone, regardless of their medical and/or financial situation.”
Riskin began his career under the tutelage of his father Manny Roberts. To this day, Manny is remembered as the star of a nationally broadcast 1970s television commercial where the handsome, bikini-clad Manny plunged into a swimming pool with a non-surgical hair replacement system, before coolly driving off in a Jaguar convertible. This 30-second spot quickly cemented Manny as the nation’s top pioneer in the burgeoning hair replacement industry.
Since those 1970s glory days, hair replacement has evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry, spearheaded by Manny and his son Dean. In fact, what was once 100-percent male-oriented business, has today evolved into an even split between men, women and children of all ages.
Following Manny’s retirement in 1993, Dean was determined to uphold his father’s legacy and propel the company into its next phase of operations. To further the company’s success, Riskin created POP Wigs USA in 2001. At that time, the industry had changed dramatically from the hair piece business to non-surgical hair systems (permanently attached hair, allowing recipients to swim, sleep, shower and live with full heads of hair). Attachment techniques have evolved from weaves back in the 1960s/70s to the micro-lock system, which was created by Manny Roberts Hair Replacement back in the 1980s.
Other industry innovations have taken place since Manny’s micro lock technique. From cutting-edge medical adhesives and uber-thin foundations for hair systems (skin-like materials, and near invisible/undetectable shear lace components), Riskin and his team offer clients a plethora of solutions, from lifetime membership programs that allow clients to never worry again about hair loss. Such offerings include the cost of the hair system, as well as regular monthly maintenance services, featuring haircuts, washing, styling, coloring, and other treatments. Rates can range from $175 to $500 per month, depending upon programs selected which have been specifically tailored for them.
In 2001 Dean and his team changed direction and began manufacturing their own hair replacement systems and cranial prosthetics. After two years of perfecting various styles and designs, they entered into the global market. From positive testimonials and word-of-mouth, Dean once again earned celebrity status in the hair replacement industry, offering hair loss solutions of the highest caliber.
