Matt Lafargue is a trial attorney at Kemeny, Ramp & Renaud, LLC, known for his extensive experience and dedication to justice. He handles a variety of civil litigation cases, such as probate disputes, commercial conflicts, and personal injury claims. Before joining the firm, Mr. Lafargue spent thirteen years as a criminal prosecutor, managing thousands of cases and presenting numerous motions and trials in court.
During his ten-year tenure as a Deputy Attorney General with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Division of Criminal Justice, Mr. Lafargue focused on various criminal litigation areas, including public corruption, organized crime, large-scale narcotics, serial burglary, environmental crimes, bias crimes, major motor vehicle theft, and homicide. He led complex investigations, including those involving homicides and wiretaps, and contributed as a trainer and curriculum designer for the Northeast Environmental Enforcement Project. Additionally, he served as a Legal Specialist for New Jersey’s State Ethics Commission.
At the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office in New York, Mr. Lafargue managed hundreds of cases simultaneously, prosecuting a wide range of criminal offenses, including domestic violence, animal cruelty, fraud, and vehicular crimes. He also regularly spoke at local high schools about the dangers of drunk driving.
Mr. Lafargue earned his Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law, where he was a Dean’s Award Merit Scholar. He was recognized for his exceptional advocacy skills, winning the Marden Moot Court Competition, judged by a panel including Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. He also ranked 13th in the Northeast United States in the Jessup International Law Competition and secured second place in NYU Law’s 1L Mock Trial Oral Advocacy Competition.
Before law school, Mr. Lafargue obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy from Rutgers University, making the Dean’s List in his final four semesters.
