Vas Onica2
My name is Vas Onica, I am 30 years old, and I am the Ambassador for disabled models.

At the age of 6 months old I contracted polio via an injection on my left leg, and as a result I have to use crutches for the rest of my life.

In spite of this, I did not let my disability stand in the way of what I wanted to achieve in life;

I came to the UK from Romania in 1994, and since then I have achieved everything I put my mind to;
In 1995 I swam 2000 metres without stopping.
In the same year I met a few premier league football players, including Dan Petrescu (Ex Chelsea and Romania’s defender)
In 1998 I came second in a London table tennis competition for disabled people.
In September 2009 I reached the top of Mt. Snowdon.
In March 2010 I managed to climb Mt Kilimanjaro.
Since March 2011 I started my modelling career at Models of Diversity.

My aim is to inspire, motivate and encourage disabled people to go for their dreams, not to let anyone or anything stand in your way. One of my favourite quotes is; “Don’t let life discourage you. Everyone who got where he is had to begin where he was”. Whilst training to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro I came across an African proverb which I strongly believe in; “Disability is NOT an Inability”!

Go for your dreams, if that’s modelling than great! If you want to have your own business or start a family, go for it! You can Do, Be and Have anything you want. Believe… and the magic will follow!
