“ Andy Gibbs is an architectural engineer, builder and remodeling veteran with 50+ years in design and construction. He has performed or supervised whole-house renovations, holds 40+ patents, and founded RemodX. ”
**Andy Gibbs is a U.S. home improvement and remodeling expert, architectural engineer, builder, contractor, author and inventor with more than 50 years of hands-on experience in residential construction, home renovation, remodeling design and project management.** He is the founder of RemodX™, a homeowner remodeling advisory platform, and author of *Rebo’s Remodeling Rules*, a practical guide to avoiding costly remodeling mistakes.
Gibbs’ expertise spans whole-house remodeling, residential design and construction, remodeling costs and budgets, contractor selection, construction contracts, competitive bidding, project planning, building materials, permits and codes, construction sequencing, change orders, inspections, jobsite problems and the hidden existing conditions that frequently cause renovation budgets to escalate.
Unlike many home-improvement commentators, Gibbs’ experience is both technical and hands-on. A degreed architectural engineer, he has designed more than 100 homes, commercial buildings and remodeling projects and has personally performed or supervised work involving site layout, concrete and masonry, framing, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, drywall and finishing, finish carpentry, cabinetry and other building systems. He has also completed multiple major renovations while living in the homes being remodeled, giving him firsthand experience with the disruption, cost pressures and contractor-management problems homeowners encounter.
Earlier in his career, Gibbs designed specialized hazardous-material storage buildings and authored building specifications and safety standards that were later incorporated into the **Uniform Fire Code**. He also held executive leadership positions with the American Institute of Building Design, including serving as president.
His work extends deeply into construction products and technology. Gibbs is an inventor and product developer with more than 40 U.S. patents covering technologies in multiple industries. That combination of engineering, construction and product-development experience allows him to evaluate home-improvement products not simply as a consumer, but from the standpoint of design, materials, installation, performance and constructability.
Gibbs is the founder of **RemodX.com**, created to give homeowners access to the kind of remodeling intelligence traditionally held by experienced contractors and construction professionals. RemodX provides guidance on project scope, specifications, budgeting, contractor research, bid comparison, contracts and remodeling risk. He also developed **Ask REBO™**, a remodeling-specific AI advisor built around his own construction knowledge, writings and remodeling methodology.
As an author, Gibbs wrote *Rebo’s Remodeling Rules: The Money-Saving, Chaos-Ending Guide Contractors Hope You Never Read*. He also co-authored *Essentials of Patents* for **John Wiley & Sons** and has written extensively about construction, technology, intellectual property, entrepreneurship and product development.
Gibbs previously served as a contributing editor for **Entrepreneur** magazine’s digital edition. His home improvement, remodeling and construction expertise has also been featured by **Family Handyman, Realtor.com and Architect Today**.
Today, Gibbs is a resource for journalists covering **home improvement, remodeling, renovation, residential construction, contractors, remodeling costs, home maintenance, building codes, construction defects, contractor scams, aging homes, renovation planning, homeowner mistakes, remodeling technology and AI in home improvement**.
Through RemodX.com , he focuses on one central objective: giving homeowners enough construction knowledge to sit across the table from contractors, designers and suppliers as informed participants rather than inexperienced buyers.
