Scott Dunbar, Troop Real Estate Manager
What you first notice about Scott Dunbar is his easygoing, relaxed confidence; a confidence built on having achieved a lifetime of entrepreneurial success. Growing up the son of a dentist whose first love was buying and fixing up homes, Scott saw his father’s business dealings up-close-and-personal. In fact, his family often lived in the houses that his father was renovating! This experience led Scott to appreciate two things: the dynamics of the real estate market and the entrepreneurial spirit.

“I’m always willing to step in to help close a deal.”

Scott moved on to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara (U.C.S.B) on a golf scholarship, having played golf from the early age of seven. It was a tumultuous time in Santa Barbara during the late 1960s, but Scott stayed focused on his sport and his studies, ultimately leaving college to joining the professional golf circuit.

Scott’s easy sense of humor is displayed when talking about his playing days. “It was a very expensive profession for me…It cost me more than I made.” Being a realist and recognizing that, perhaps, a professional golf career was not in the cards, Scott settled in California’s Central Valley and bought a 24-acre apple orchard to begin his career as an entrepreneur.

As the Red Delicious apple orchards expanded, so did his holdings when he acquired a sprayer manufacturing company to supplement his seasonal income. With an acute sense for business and a tenacious personality, he grew the sprayer business into a successful venture, which ultimately brought him to settle in Santa Paula. Here, Scott had to make his mark anew. So to demonstrate the confidence in his ability to tackle most anything that comes along, Scott named his new Santa Paula company, “The Scotcan Company.”

From behind the counter of his new company, Scott began networking with his neighbors, keeping his finger on the pulse of the town. He was oftentimes able to connect people with many of their needs – including property and homes. Seeing this as a potential entrepreneurial venture, Scott made the choice to make real estate a new avenue.

“Much of real estate is about relationships…Getting to know people and building your network will bring you a long way in this business.”

And Scott should know. In his first year as a realtor, Scott handled over 10 million dollars in total production.

Scott joined Troop Real Estate in a managerial position when Brian Troop saw future potential in the fast-growing Santa Paula/Fillmore area of Ventura County. Needing someone who was in touch with the real estate trends of the area, Brian chose Scott because of his first-hand knowledge of the region and his impressive background in real estate.

“The leadership at Troop Real Estate is always looking to improve upon what is already in place. If there is a better, faster, or more advanced way of doing business, Troop Real Estate is already moving towards the opportunity.”
