Alex Gold is a 24 year-old political activist determined to spread the conservative message to young people. Born in the north, but raised in the south, Alex has lived in Savannah since he was 13 years old. He attended high school at Savannah Country Day School, began college at the University of Richmond and currently is finishing his degree at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

In high school, Alex successfully created and ran an awareness/fundraising campaign for the refugees of the genocide that took place in Darfur, Sudan. Alex appeared on local radio station WTKS 1290 Savannah; local news stations WTOC, WSAV, and appeared in the Savannah Morning News to raise awareness. He also spoke to students of Savannah Country Day School and Savannah Arts Academy. His organization, Student Support for Darfur, raised more than $7,000 dollars for the cause; the proceeds were donated to the International Rescue Committee to aid in providing resources to refugees from the conflict.

At the age of 16, Alex began volunteering for U.S. Congressman Jack Kingston in his Diamond Causeway office in Savannah, Georgia. After contributing for over a year, he was invited to shadow Congressman Kingston in Washington, D.C. The experience of shadowing his congressman inspired Alex to learn as much as possible about the United States government, and how decisions at all levels influence everyday life.

As a junior at Armstrong Atlantic State University, Alex focused on studying various pieces of legislation for personal study. His work resulted in a research paper that was accepted to one of the most prestigious political science conferences in the world, the Midwest Political Science Association’s Annual Conference. Alex’s paper studied the legislative contributions to the financial crisis of 2008. He traced a path through years of legislation, leading back to the early 1990’s, which created the conditions leading to the near collapse of the global economy. Alex also presented the paper as part of the Armstrong Atlantic State University Student Scholar Symposium.

Over the last year, Alex has begun an initiative to increase voter participation and awareness among his generation, and those to follow. In July of 2013, he was given the title, “The Young Republican,” by WTKS 1290 Radio Host Bill Edwards for his work to spread the conservative message to young people. Shortly thereafter, Alex was asked to guest host Bill Edwards’ morning radio show, becoming the youngest person ever to guest host for WTKS.

Alex is a proud young conservative, but above all else, a God-fearing patriot. His love for the United State of America and all that it allows is the driving force behind everything he does.
