David Fiske

Author

 David Fiske, a retired librarian who conducts genealogical and local history research, is an expert on the life of Solomon Northup, who ws kidnapped and sold ino slavery in 1841. After being rescued, he wrote Twelve Years a Slave. 
Mr. Fiske spent years researching the life of Solomon Northup. He was a free black
who lived in Saratoga Springs, New York. In 1841, he met some men who enticed
him into leaving the state with them. In Washington, D.C., they sold him as a
slave, and he was sent to Louisiana, where he lived as a slave for nearly 12
years. Eventualy, he was rescued by a friend of his, and he returned home to
upstate New York. He authored a book, Twelve Years a Slave, which was very
popular at the time.

Fiske's book, "Solomon Northup: His Life Before and After Slavery," provides
some details on his activities after his return.

Fiske is also a co-author of a book, Solomon Northup: The Complete Story of the Author of Twelve Years a Slave, to be published in summerc 2013.

In addition to his work on Northup, Fiske has written numerous local history articles about the Ballston, Spa, New York region.
