Before Dion & Forsyth

Douglas began his legal career as an associate in the "Collections and Asset Recovery Department" of a prominent law firm, Yoss LLP (previously, Adorno & Yoss, LLP). While at this firm, he handled matters in the areas of creditor's rights, consumer collections, and corporate collections. In this regard, he personally handled large volume portfolios of commercial and consumer claims for several large institutional clients. He successfully created numerous work-outs and/or litigated collection matters, as well as equipment damage matters. He developed the garnishment and related post judgment execution procedures for the firm, which resulted in an improved liquidation rate of judgments obtained on behalf of clients.

Thereafter, Douglas served as the litigation managing Partner at Gill Dion & Forsyth, P.A. In this role, he managed large volume portfolios of commercial and consumer claims for several large institutional clients, as well as smaller portfolios for other institutional and non-institutional clients. Accordingly, he was heavily involved in all aspects of case treatment from pre-litigation call and collect strategies (involving collector management and file analysis) to controlling litigation case inventories. He also managed associate attorneys with their litigation case inventories. Additionally, he coordinated the litigation support staff for all offices of the firm. He trained associates, paralegals, collectors and other staff on litigation proceedings and state law compliance issues. He established a trained and efficient post judgment department, which increased the liquidation of judgments obtained on behalf of clients.

Community Involvement

Generally, Douglas welcomes speaking engagements. For example, Douglas recently taught a continuing legal education class which covered the following topics - prejudgment discovery, locating debtors, debtor asset discovery, pre-lawsuit strategies, procedural guidelines for filing lawsuits and obtaining judgments, collecting judgments, and creditors' rights when a debtor files for bankruptcy.

Additionally, Douglas attends and volunteers at events contributing to the welfare of the underprivileged families and/or children in South Florida. He also attends events to raise funds for heart disease and cancer research.
