Marilyn Sullivan is the program chair of the fashion marketing program at El Centro College, a 9,000-plus urban learning institution in Dallas, Texas, where she actively teaches apparel and accessories marketing, fashion buying, fashion promotion, fashion trends, retailing, textiles and visual merchandising.
Sullivann holds a BS degree in Home Economics Education and an MS degree in Clothing and Textiles, both from Kansas State University where she completed extensive fashion-related research for the Department of Human Services that focused on the design and construction of clothing for girls with spina bifida. Before joining Dallas County Community College District, Sullivan was as a Fashion Merchandising Instructor and later Education Director for Wade College. She was also a sportswear buyer for Sanger-Harris, now a division of Macy's.
During her distinguished educational career, Sullivan has been recognized by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development , Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Outstanding Young Women of America, all for her excellence in teaching and educational management. Most recently in 2011, Sullivan received the coveted "Spirit of El Centro Award," which recognizes one full-time El Centro employee each year for exemplary interpersonal relations, outstanding performance of duties, and other special contributions. Additionally, she has been nominated for the prestigious Minnie Piper Stevens Professor of the Year award for outstanding educator in Texas.
