 Cary Colt Payne founded Colt Gun Trust to provide the public with premium protection for NFA weapons at affordable prices. Mr. Payne is a descendant of the Colt firearms family, through his maternal side, and is well versed in his family’s history. 
Cary Colt Payne, Esq. is the sole practitioner in the firm Cary Colt Payne, Chtd., established in 1994.

The firm primarily practices in matters of trust, probate and guardianship litigation, both in State and Federal Court.

His practice includes many related areas, such as estate planning and services all kinds of business agreements. He represents all classes, including beneficiaries, heirs, creditors, and professional and non-professional fiduciaries as well as representing institutional clients, Creditors, Personal Representatives, all on an hourly or mixed rates.

Mr. Payne also has expanded his practice to include specialty trusts/specific or single purpose trusts for gun owners/collectors. This is a unique service for those many collectors wherein such collectors would want the legacy of their specific special collections to carry on after them.

He has tried (including arbitration) over 100 cases, both jury and non-jury, and has appeared before the Nevada Supreme Court with several published appellate decisions. (Matter of the Estate of Miller 178 P.3d 767, 122 Nev. 46 (Nev., 2006), 216 P.3d 239 (Nev., 2009); Matter of Estate of Prestie, 138 P.3d 520 (Nev., 2006); Matter of Estate of Bowlds, 102 P.3d 593 (Nev., 2004), trial counsel for In the Matter of Jane Tiffany Living Trust, 177 P.3d 1060 (Nev., 2008).

Mr. Payne graduated from the University of San Diego, where he earned his degree in accounting (B.B.A.1985).

Following undergraduate school, he obtained his J.D. from the University of Denver in 1988, and an LL.M. (taxation) from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1989. He is currently licensed to practice in both Nevada and California. Mr. Payne is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals (9th Circuit), since 1991.

He is a current member the Nevada Probate and Tax Sections, State Bar of California Trust & Estate Section, as well as a past member of the ABA Intellectual Property Section, and a current member of the Clark County Bar Association.

There are many who, whether by having a collection preserved through the generations of their own family, or have spent a lifetime collecting firearms, current and/or historical, who want to preserve their collections for themselves and their own descendants into the future. Cary Colt Payne, Esq., utilizing his knowledge of the law, has developed what is proprietarily known as the Colt Gun Trust.
