D. Emily Hicks teaches in southern California. She is the director the Border Institute for Advanced Studies in Nonlinear Events and Structures. Hicks is the author of Border Writing, the Multidimensional Text (University of Minnesota, 1991) and Ninety-five Languages (Peter Lang, 1999). She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in an English Department and an ethnic studies department. She received her Ph.D. from UC San Diego. She also studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, UC Berkeley and the Ecole Pratique. She has lectured and performed internationally.
