In the early 1990s, Gomez found his professional home at the Caribbean Life newspaper as editorial Columnist and then gradually transitioned to full reporting covering the five boroughs of New York City, parts of Long Island and the broader Caribbean region. By the late 1990s, he became Caribbean correspondent for Carib News, a New York publication, covering Cuba, Haiti, and Venezuela.
