Paul Franklin Smith is an artist, technologist, musician, student, and aspiring cognitive scientist. Paul worked in web development and electronic marketing at some of the fastest-growing Silicon Valley companies during and after the dot-com boom before turning his attention to the non-profit sector and education.
At organizations providing services to individuals with disabilities, he received acclaim for his creative and innovative approaches to service delivery, emphasizing effective leverage of technology and inter-agency cooperation. In 2009, he was recognized by the California Department of Rehabilitation as Service Provider of the Year. As co-leader of a coalition of more than forty nonprofits and government agencies (BACED), he was instrumental in the planning and implementation of what became the largest workforce development conference in the San Francisco Bay Are in two decades (the Workforce Development Summit), which continues to grow and serve Silicon Valley and the Bay Area.
Paul was working full-time and attending university to complete a degree in psychology when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor on June 17th, 2011, and returned to classes - this time as a full-time student - in the Fall of 2011.
Now finishing his degree and researching graduate schools, Paul launched an online business which unites several of his skills and interests. Paul is bringing attention to issues which encourage dialog between scientists, laypeople, and artists via Neuronico Art & Neuroscience (http://SEE.neuronico.net). Neuronico Art & Neuroscience is the first website to launch in a series exploring the junctions between neuroscience and culture. It features the visual art and writing of Paul Franklin Smith, and offers art prints, art panels, posters, and other products for purchase.
