CEO
“ Somdip Dey is a serial entrepreneur and an Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) scientist focused on implementing A.I. on mobile platforms. He is a co-founder and CEO of Nosh Technologies, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Essex, U.K. ”
Somdip Dey is an Embedded Artificial Intelligence Ph.D. candidate at the University of Essex and CEO of Nosh Technologies. In 2012 Somdip invented a digital QR authentication system, which is later adopted by several institutes around the world to stop the generation of fake degree certificates and transcripts.
In 2014 while pursuing his master’s at the University of Manchester Somdip’s parents went through a car accident, which made him financially responsible for the family. After sending back all his savings to the family during that time period he survived by collecting food from dumpsters. Later this experience led to co-founding Codeepy and as a member of the company he also co-developed the world's first crowd food-sharing platform, which enables users to share unwanted food with people in need. This work also won the 3Scale API Award at the Koding’s 2014 Global Hackathon, and several entrepreneurs started developing similar solutions to reduce food waste around the world.
Somdip’s Ph.D. research at the University of Essex is focused on developing affordable artificial intelligence (AI) by creating models capable of training and running specifically on affordable mobile platforms, enabling developing countries to adopt and implement AI models economically. Developing countries could benefit from Somdip’s research, which found a new methodology to offer a real-time traffic monitoring system without the need for expensive servers. This work was presented at the 2018 NASA/ESA Conference on Adaptive Hardware Systems (NASA/ESA AHS).
In 2020, Somdip co-founded Nosh Technologies and co-created the nosh – Food Stock Management app, which reminds the users of their foods’ expiry date before they expire, to help people reduce food waste during COVID-19 pandemic.
Somdip has more than 10 years of industry experience, working on developing technologies, including working for Microsoft and Samsung Electronics. Somdip has published more than 35 peer-reviewed research papers on different topics of computer science ranging from information security to computer systems engineering, and also acts as a technical program committee member of several top conferences such as AAAI, IEEE EdgeCom and IEEE CSCloud.
