Teresa M. Melcher comes to Self Publishing Press after more than a quarter century of dealing with writers and editors.
At Self Publishing Press, she is involved in editing author's manuscripts as well as advising them on the ins and outs of the publishing world. She also works with those writers who want help in marketing their books.
Melcher's most recent position was as editor of The Bryan Times in Bryan, Ohio. The family-owned newspaper is the dominant news source in Williams County and weathered the recent tough economic times as the county's unemployment rate soared to more than 17 percent. As editor, she promoted local news as the publication's No. 1 value to readers and helped the management team maintain readership.
Before her move to Bryan, Melcher worked at the then World War II Victory Museum and Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum in Auburn, Ind. The two museums offer visitors a diverse and unique visit, with a variety of vintage autos, Indy racers and a unique collection of World War II vintage vehicles. Among her accomplishments were organizing the Auburn Concours D'Elegance and a motorcycle exhibit featuring 39 vintage bikes from the museum's collection.
Melcher also worked for a number of years at The Independent in Massillon, Ohio, beginning there as an education reporter and progressing through the ranks to editor.
She oversaw coverage of the shooting death of a city patrolman; and a tornado which ripped through a township in the coverage area; as well as helping oversee The Inde's switch to a morning publication and upgrade of its Weekender product.
She also has spent time at Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties and newspapers in Zanesville, Ohio, and Portsmouth, Ohio.
