Mike Armour

As the founder and president of Strategic Leadership Development International, Dr. Mike Armour has served as a coach, mentor, and adviser to top-level executives in dozens of industries, government agencies, and non-profits.
For over 30 years he has helped managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs perfect leadership, strategic, and communication skills.
He began mentoring executives in the emerging Silicon Valley of the 1970s, largely on a pro bono basis. In the early 1990s he moved to fee-based coaching and founded his present company in 2001.
Mike is astute at analyzing personal behavior and organizational culture, with particular skills in change management, conflict resolution, and trust-building.
Recent engagements have included work with senior leadership and high-potential executives at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Microsoft, Bell Helicopter, American-Standard/Trane, Experian, McAfee Software, UBS Wealth Management, 7-Eleven, 1st Global Financial Services, Frito-Lay, Raytheon, Nortel, TXU, EMJ Construction Corporation, Comerica Bank, MorganStanley, and Bank of America.
As a coach and mentor Mike draws on his own broad leadership experience, including service as a university dean, a college president, a Navy captain, a Congressional candidate, and the chairman of several multi-million dollar fund-raising campaigns. As a naval reserve officer he was decorated three times for his pioneering work as the chief information officer for a nationwide intelligence command.
Until recently Mike also served as CEO of an international non-profit with extensive humanitarian operations in Russia, Ukraine, and elsewhere in Eastern Europe.
Today he is partnered with Leadership Training Associates International in Kenya in an initiative called Leadership Development Africa. This program provides high-level leadership training for business and government leaders across East Africa.
Mike is a successful author in the field of leadership and has been published in over a dozen languages. He published Leadership and the Power of Trust in 2009. It focuses on building high-trust, peak-performance organizations.
The following year he published Leadership and Life: Quick Pointers for Success. This volume is a compilation of the most popular articles published in the first decade of his LeaderPerfect Newsletter, one of the oldest leadership newsletters on the web.
In 2010 he also contributed to Bushido Business: The Fine Art of the Modern Professional, co-authored with Stephen M. R. Covey, Tom Hopkins, and Brian Tracy.
A member of the National Speaker’s Association, Mikee keynotes internationally on topics related to leadership, ethics, communication, and team-building. He is also a certified trainer in business communication and is credentialed in both conflict resolution and group facilitation.

Mike holds degrees from five colleges and universities, including a Ph.D. from UCLA. He also completed graduate study in defense economics and strategic planning at the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, RI.
He continues his interest in higher education as an adjunct professor of leadership in the Executive MBA program at Texas Woman’s University and as a member of the Board of Trustees for York College in Nebraska.
