Kansas Cafferty has been in the mental health field since 1997.. Prior to starting True North Recovery Services and the Cafferty Clinic he was the Director of Clinical Services for Prange County Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, a private psychiatry practice headed by the then Chief of Psychiatry, and Army Major, Valeh Karimkhani, DO.

Kansas holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. He also holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from National University in La Jolla, CA. He has worked in various addiction treatment settings including residential, intensive outpatient, and school based settings. Further, he has worked as a therapist in a prestigious residential facility for the treatment of eating disorders and as the family program therapist for a program well known for its intensive work with difficult to reach, chronic relapsing clients who suffered from a myriad of complicating mental health problems.


While education, training, and experience have molded Kansas as a professional in the addiction and mental health field, his passion and ability to connect with people is what sets him apart. While he is adept as a therapist in many areas, he has particular talents in the areas of addictive disorders, eating disorders, sexual addictions, relapse prevention, dual diagnosis, and treating trauma patients.

In addition to his work at True North, Kansas also serves as a Commissioner for the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals at the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselors (NAADAC) where he takes his vision toward improving addiction treatment standards across the United States and abroad.

His work has also been featured in industry publications such as Counselor Magazine and Addiction Professional Magazine.
