Dr. Harold Elam Jr is a Philadelphia native, graduate of Overbrook Senior High School, Class of 1985. Completed undergraduate at UC Irvine in California...and received his Doctorate in Philosophy from University of Canterbury.
Automotive executive with over 16 years experience working at a dealership level. Seeking a position and/or working partnership where my knowledge, skills and talents will help in the immediate and long term growth of the company. I started my automotive career in Febuary, 1995 at Leith Automotive Group in Fayetteville, NC under the direct teaching of Ralph Crawford, Matt Hanson and Cliff Ferrell, who currently serves as the General Manager @ Leith Mercedes. I started in direct sales under the Mitsubishi brand, grew quickly in the business, selling from across the board – Acura, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Kia.

My direct selling skills exceeded the expectations of my managers, with a record month in 1995 of 29 Units, reached in my second month in the business. I was soon transferred into Special Finance to help grow this new department through Security National Bank. Secondary Finance is where I excelled even faster and found my first calling in the business. I would go on to become Salesman of the month 6 months straight with my only real competition during the remaining six months of the year being Terry Moore, my friend in the business who is the current Internet Director @ Reed-Lallier Chevrolet in Fayetteville, NC.

During my three year tenor with Leith of Fayetteville, I had the opportunity to become proficient in finance, desking and team management. I became the Isuzu Sales Manager in 1997 and won The Presidents’ cup, where I was able to take my entire sales team to Las Vegas for Cash Bash. My career with Leith Automotive Group ended in November 1998 when I moved back to Philadelphia after a bad divorce. I would take with me 3 years of knowledge that would almost guarantee me another position in the automotive industry.

Leith Automotive Group – February 1995/November 1998
Mitsubishi-Volvo-Acura-Isuzu-Kia
Ending Position: Isuzu Sales Manager
Top Salary: $65,000.00

I arrived in Philadelphia in late November 1998 to complete my work in the Church; at the time for me the ministry didn’t offer much income, so I became employed with Gary Barbera Automotive Group d/b/a “Barbera Dodgeland” & “Chryslerland” The World Famous!

I was hired as a One-Man Internet Department, working directly with Gary & Geno Barbera at the Dodgeland location in Roxboro, PA a suburb of Philadelphia; my responsibilities included Special Finance, The Internet and selling The Dodge Viper! The position got better as I was allowed to build, implement and manage a brand new Internet/BDC Department focused around Special Finance and Specialty Units available on and off the web, this where I found my second calling in the industry.

We created websites, launched toll free numbers and created The Philadelphia Credit Connection all encircled around Barbera!! The start of something big, was getting bigger! I built a team during my tenor with Barbera that would handle customer sales calls, service follow-ups and CSI deliveries – The Barbera Team, as we were called answered phones, greeted customers and aided in selling MORE CARS. Over the next six years the internet begin growing and we grew with it, by early 2004 we had achieved a consistent flow of residual business, through trial and error…but once we got it, We Kept It. I ended my career in October 2004 with The Barbera Automotive Group and retuned to be with my son from a previous marriage.

Barbera Automotive Group – November 1998 – October 2004
Dodge – Chrysler – Jeep
Ending Position: Internet/BDC Director
Top Salary: $85,000.00

My return to North Carolina was not by an active choice, more spiritually related than business motivated. I was under great demand at this point with direct support from Gary & Geno Barbera, The Chrysler Corporation and a host of Bank representatives whom I had established relationships with. God had truly blessed me with a great reputation and by the time I reached North Carolina and began to seek active employment, area dealers already had my name and verbal resume.

Central Carolina Automotive Group was my first and only stop, I meant with a young General Manager named Mark Eddleman, who would eventually teach me how to operate and utilize my knowledge and talents to advance in the automotive industry well beyond my own expectations. CCAG was a growing, yet well established automotive group representing Nissan & Hyundai brands founded by Robert “Bob” Strickland.

After a long and extensive interview process through several company executives at the time, Jo Ann Beal, Dean Ives, Chris Blanchard and Ricky Jones, who would all in the end become very close friends of me and my family. I was hired in October 2004 as The Business Development Director over all locations (Only Two At The Time) with the third being completed in Southern Pines, NC. Here is where the true challenge of my career would begin.
